Ghibli Park
This project explores an editorial redesign inspired by a feature on Ghibli Park, translating the visual language of Studio Ghibli into a contemporary magazine layout. The goal was to reinterpret the subject through a playful yet structured design system that reflects the tone and atmosphere of Ghibli’s storytelling.
Drawing from iconic characters, soft color palettes, and organic forms, I developed a visual direction that balances editorial clarity with whimsical expression. The layout integrates illustration, typography, and composition to create a cohesive reading experience that captures both the charm and narrative depth associated with the source material.
Process
To establish a cohesive visual direction, I began by exploring color palettes and typographic systems that align with the soft, nostalgic tone of Studio Ghibli. This included testing combinations that reflect natural environments, such as sky blues, muted greens, and warm accents to evoke a sense of calm and familiarity.
I then incorporated simplified character elements as supporting visuals to reinforce the theme without overwhelming the editorial structure. These elements were used selectively to guide visual hierarchy and maintain readability.
The layout was further developed through experimentation with spacing, framing, and organic shapes, such as cloud-like forms, to mirror Ghibli’s signature aesthetic. This process allowed me to balance expressive visuals with the functional requirements of editorial design, resulting in a layout that is both engaging and structured.
